JOB TITLE:
Therapist

REPORTS TO:
Clinical Manager or Program Director

BASED AT:
Bricelyn, MN

PURPOSE:
The Therapist is responsible for providing and documenting individual, family, and group therapies to assigned caseload in addition to assisting in the establishment and maintenance of a therapeutic milieu.

QUALIFICATIONS:
The Therapist will be thoroughly committed to the Minnesota Girls Academy mission.  Concrete demonstrable experience and other qualifications include:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited school in Psychology, Social Worker, or related mental health field.
  • Applicable state license
  • Post graduate experience in a therapeutic setting, preferably with children and adolescents with emotional disturbance
  • Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Sensitivity to racial, cultural, economic, and gender specific issues

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide individual, group, and family therapy
  • Collect information about residents through interviews, observation, and tests
  • Develop and implement treatment plans based on clinical experience and knowledge
  • Prepare and maintain all required treatment records and reports
  • Maintain confidentiality of records relating to residents’ treatment and HIPAA compliance
  • Knowledge of “best practices” and evidence based behavioral medicine treatment delivery and methodologies
  • Skilled in Motivational Interviewing
  • Knowledge of DBT and Mindfulness, as well as CBT, Gender Issues and Experiential Therapy
  • Act as client advocates in order to coordinate required services or to resolve emergency problems in crisis situations
  • Identifies emergency signals and situations, and reacts appropriately
  • Collaborate with other staff members ensure resident’s treatment needs are met
  • Meet with families, county workers, probation officers, police, and other interested parties in order to exchange necessary information during the treatment process
  • Refer residents or family members to community resources or to specialists as necessary
  • Counsel family members to assist them in understanding, dealing with, and supporting resident
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of counseling programs and residents’ progress in addressing identified problems and moving towards defined objectives
  • Plan, organize and lead structured programs of counseling, work, study, recreation and social activities for clients
  • Modify treatment activities and approaches as needed in order to comply with changes in residents’ status
  • Learn about new developments in their field by reading professional literature, attending courses and seminars, and establishing and maintaining contact with other social service agencies
  • Monitor residents’ use of medications
  • Facilitate workshops and trainings about mental health issues
  • Other duties as assigned

JOB TITLE: Youth Counselor I

REPORTS TO: House Manager

BASED AT: Bricelyn, MN

PURPOSE:

The Youth Counselor I interacts and supervises residents on a day to day basis with a focus on safety and adherence to program rules and expectations creating a positive and nurturing environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience working with children / adolescents desired

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Form therapeutic relationships with residents through day-to-day interactions
  • Promote a safe and positive environment
  • Maintain a clean and orderly environment
  • Observe and promptly respond to behavioral issues through approved crisis intervention techniques
  • Follow daily program schedule
  • Adhere to safety standards
  • Counsel individual residents
  • Facilitate group counseling
  • Assist in skills acquisition related to activities of daily living – independent living skills
  • Implement individualized treatment plans / interventions
  • Document residents’ daily behavior
  • Complete required reports
  • Attend all staff trainings and meeting
  • Communicate with supervisor and co-workers
  • Provide transportation
  • Assist with household shopping
  • Schedule appointments as directed
  • Complete / supervise allowance & picks
  • Conduct emergency drills as directed
  • Attend Interdisciplinary Treatment Team meetings as schedule allows
  • Display positive customer relations
  • Determine the need for facility maintenance and repair, and notify appropriate personnel
  • Supply basic first aid and emergency procedures if necessary
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor

JOB TITLE:
Light Night Youth Counselor I

REPORTS TO:
House Manager

BASED AT:
Bricelyn, MN

PURPOSE:
The Late Night Youth Counselor I provides awake supervision of residents during the overnight hours.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience working with children / adolescents desired

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain supervision of residents during overnight hours
  • Assist residents who are up at night
  • Promote a safe and positive environment
  • Maintain a clean and orderly environment
  • Observe and promptly respond to behavioral issues through approved crisis intervention techniques
  • Adhere to safety standards
  • Document residents’ overnight behavior
  • Complete required reports
  • Attend all required staff trainings and meeting
  • Communicate with supervisor and co-workers
  • Assist with filing
  • Perform light housekeeping / laundry
  • Assist with making document copies
  • Display positive customer relations
  • Determine the need for facility maintenance and repair, and notify appropriate personnel
  • Supply basic first aid and emergency procedures if necessary
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor
